DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre Esports has wrapped up a lighter, yet still exciting, week of games against quality opponents.
Here's how the Colonels performed:
Marvel Rivals vs Georgia College & State (10/4): Win 3-2
This match-up was the closest game that Centre had in a long time. The first two rounds were filled with head to head battles and the winner was either determined by a single misstep or someone getting their ultimate faster than someone else. Fights would be delayed because the teams were so evenly matched and neither could find openings. Centre had made some progress, but by round three they were down and needed a new strategy. Switching from a tank-centric brawly playstyle to a dive focused comp completely changed the pacing and GCSU struggled to find an affective way to respond. StarGarden (
Leif Becker) on Magik and Bucky gave GCSU a really hard time by splitting their attention while the rest of the team continued to batter them from the front. This was an absoloute hairpin match with fantastic plays from both sides and a great strategy switch up from Centre College.
Rocket League vs Lander (10/4): Loss 3-2 (2-3, 4-3, 2-1, 2-3, 3-4)
In one of the closest (and longest) Bo5 matches Centre RL has ever played, Centre and Lander went to overtime 4 out of 5 of the rounds played. Every single round was determined by only a single goal and neither team was ever shut out from scoring. Duroxy (
Eddie Mora) had a standout game in round 2, scoring 3 of Centre's 4 goals. Check out highlights here:

Rocket League vs Florida Southern (10/4): Loss 3-1 (1-2, 1-2, 2-0, 1-2)
The second match of Sunday's double header saw several overtime finishes as well! Only round three where the Centre shut FSC out did not see an overtime finish. Also just like the previous match, Centre scored only one fewer goal ending 5-6 total. Duroxy (
Eddie Mora) managed an impressive play in round 3 weaving in and out of all three defenders in remarkably precise solo goal. Unfortunately, in the final overtime, FSC's defense was unyielding despite many shot attempts.

Rocket League vs Columbus State (10/5): Win 3-1 (2-0, 2-4, 5-1, 5-1)
The Colonels advanced their positions in the PBC standings with their 3-1 win, with especially dominant showings in rounds 1 and 2.
Valorant vs Purdue Northwest (10/5): Win 2-0 (13-5, 13-6)
Centre Valorant picked up their first win of the season with a 2–0 win over Purdue Northwest.
The first map was Abyss, where Centre tried running a double-sentinel comp for the first time, and it worked really well. Centre started on attack and lost the first two rounds, but quickly brought it back and ended the first half up 7–5. Once Centre switched to defense, the team took control of the map and went on a big round streak to close it out. Drag (
Briggs Cook) had an especially solid game, finishing the map with 26 kills.
Centre had another slow start on Ascent, losing the first three rounds before Klippy (
Vedant Bhagat) picked up a 3K to help get Centre on the board. Later in the half, Kill3rB3an (
Sam Stephenson) got a quick opening 2K that helped turn things around for Centre. From there, the team won four rounds in a row and once again ended the first half with a 7–5 lead. Centre carried that momentum into the second half and only gave up one round before closing out Ascent 13–6 and completing the 2–0 win.
With their first win of the season now in the bag, Centre Valorant will look to carry this momentum into their next match.
