Hein named USTFCCCA Athlete of the Week after setting national long jump record

NEW ORLEANS - The US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its national awards for indoor track earlier this week and once again, a well-deserved National Athlete of the Week honor went to Centre's Chloe Hein after a performance to remember at the SAA Championships.

Hein made NCAA history as she recorded a mark of 21-2.25 (6.46m), now officially the best mark in the history of the women's long jump at the NCAA Division III level. She had tied the previous NCAA Division III record last week in the regular season finale and now owns five of the ten longest jumps of all time at the D3 level. In six indoor track meets this season, Hein has eclipsed her personal best mark in the long jump each time.

In addition to the long jump record and event win at the conference championships, Hein participated in five other events at the meet, winning in both the 60m and 200m, coming second in the triple jump and eighth in the high jump, and finally helping the 4x400m relay squad get the win. She set a school record with a time of 24.67 in the 200m finals and the 4x400m relay time of 3:59.14 was also a school record and the first group from Centre to ever clock in at under four minutes in that relay race.

Hein currently ranks in the top ten nationally in the long jump, triple jump, 60m and 200m. The field for the NCAA Indoor Championships will be announced next week.
