Centre women begin outdoor season at Emory Spring Break Classic

3/21/2026 5:57:00 PM

ATLANTA - Centre women's track & field began the outdoor season as they headed to Emory Spring Break Classic for a non-scored meet. The Colonels face a field of teams from all divisions and some professional athletes as well, but still turned in several good performances along the way with a pair of school records going down.

In the 100m, freshly crowned indoor long jump national champion Chloe Hein finished in sixth place with a time of 11.79.

In the 1500m, Adelyn Shupert won her heat of the race as she finished with a time of 4:54.48 to finish 12th overall.

In the 5k, the Colonels had three of the top four times in the race. Gracie West got the win for Centre with a time of 18:00.10, with Abi Albright finishing in third place and Cara Taylor taking fourth place. Sophie Bouldin and Mary Darling also cracked the top eight overall to give the Colonels what would have been a massive scoring event had the meet been scored. Another 5k heat saw Hannah Jemley finish second overall - first among Division III competitors - with a time of 19:33.47, followed by Caroline Buckle in third and Abbott Renfro in fourth.

Next up was the 400m hurdles and All-SAA Rianne Moss took seventh place - second among Division III competitors - with a time of 1:06.32.

Moving to the jumping events, Lyla Bordwine took ninth place in the women's pole vault after clearing 10-4 (3.15m). The next event was the long jump and Hein picked up where she left off at Indoor Nationals as she broke her school record from last year with a mark of 20-4.25 (6.20), winning the event by over a foot and a half.

In the throwing events, after breaking the indoor shot put record at the conference championships, Zoey Shahid-Scott broke one of the oldest records in the book for Centre women's track as she posted an outdoor shot put mark of 44-7 (13.59m) to break the record that Kelly Davis had held since 1997. She also led Centre with a sixth place finish in the discus with a mark of 129-3 (39.4m). Lindsey Browning posted a mark of 142-0 (43.29m) to finish just outside the top eight in the hammer.
