Memphis, TN - The Men's Golf team headed down to Tennessee for the Cochran Collegiate Tournament, their last tournament before the SAA conference Tournament at the end of the month.
Round one of the tournament proved to be a strong, competitive field, with several players battling for early positioning.
Charlie Reber delivered a strong and steady performance, finishing with a 33 on the front nine and closing with a 38, ending the round at +11 (71 total). His ability to stay consistent and avoid big mistakes gave him the early edge.Â
Peyton Toon and
Harrison Akers stayed close as they each turned in solid rounds of 77 (+13) to stay tied in the standings, showing strong play but struggling with bogies on the back nine.
Jack Butts posted a 77 (+17), keeping himself in the middle of the pack with a fairly balanced round.
Ben Bevington followed with an 81 (+14), despite a higher-scoring stretch on the back nine, and managed to stay within striking distance. Further down the leader board,
Wynn Flynt carded an 82 (+21), while
Drew Edwards closed out with a 78 (+25, both looking to bounce back in the next round, later in the day.Â
Round two tightened up as the golfers brought more consistency across the field, making key moves to stay in contention. Akers followed his opening round with a steady performance, using a balanced 36-38 to stay in the hunt. Bevington matched consistency, posting an even 37 on the front and back nine, maintaining control across the 18 holes.Â
Reber had a (+3) round with a carded score of 75, while it was slightly higher than his opening round, he stayed composed with a 37-38 split in round two. Toon turned in a 79 (+7), unable to continue his first-round momentum and slipping slightly after a tougher back nine.
Jack Butts followed with a 77 (+5), continuing a steady play but still searching for a lower round in the final.Â
Further back, Flynt shot a 78 (+5), while Edwards finished with an 80 (+8). Both golfers showed improvement in stretches but were challenged with inconsistency on key holes.Â
The final round had a feature of momentum shift as several golfers made late pushes, while others dropped as they struggled to maintain consistent scores in the final round.
Peyton Toon delivered his strongest round of the tournament, posting a 73 (+10. After a solid 35 on the front nine, Toon stayed composed on the back with a 38.Â
Ben Bevington followed with a 75 (+3), continuing to produce a steady play, with a 38-37 split across both nines.
Wynn Flynt carded a 77 (+5), showing improvement in stretches but unable to fully capitalize on scoring opportunities. Similarly,
Harrison Akers recorded a 78 (+6), struggling slightly compared to earlier rounds after a tougher back nine (40).Â
Jack Butts finished with a 79 (+7), while
Charlie Reber, who started the tournament close to the top faced a difficult day, carding an 81 (+9). A 42 on the back nine proved to cost him a slip in the standings.
Drew Edwards rounded out the field with an 83 (+11), unable to recover from a challenging front nine and finishing with a 43 on the back.Â
