Sydney Thomas joined the Colonels' swimming & diving teams in the summer of 2022, the 2022-23 academic year being her first season with the program.

Thomas hails from Jamestown, NY and has been involved in the sport of swimming for nearly 15 years as both an athlete and a coach. From 2016 – 2020 Sydney was a member of Eastern Michigan University’s Women’s Swim Team in Ypsilanti, MI. Under head coach Peter Linn she was primarily a distance swimmer and 400 IMer. In her senior year however, she added in the 100 and 200 backstroke. 

For undergraduate studies she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. Upon graduation, she pursued and obtained a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology at EMU as well. During her time in Michigan, Sydney coached for Club Wolverine; primarily working with their intermediate age group. In the summer of 2021, she moved back to NY and began coaching for the Marlins Swim Team in Spencerport. 

“In the past my swimmers have called me Coach Sydney or Coach Fred (Fred is my middle name), so either is fine with me. As a coach, I tend to model my coaching style after some of the most influential coaches I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with." explains Thomas, "As such, I am very energetic on the pool deck and am the type of coach who will do whatever it takes to help you reach your fullest potential. I am really excited about beginning my collegiate coaching career at Centre!”
