Holden also served as offensive coordinator and faceoff coach at Aurora University from 2011-2013, the first three years in the school's lacrosse program history. During the school's inaugural 2011 season, he helped the Spartans to an 11-6 overall record (6-2 in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference). In 2012 the Spartans were 13-4 overall (8-1 MLC) and in 2013 Aurora was 16-4 overall, won its first MLC regular season and tournament championship and appeared in (and won) the school's first NCAA Division III tournament game, winning 13-9 at Ohio Wesleyan. The win was the first men's lacrosse win by an NCAA Division III program in the state of Illinois.

Holden played two years of lacrosse at Ohio Wesleyan University before transferring to Illinois State University and playing club lacrosse for the Redbirds, where he was a three-time all-Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference selection as an attacker. While at Illinois State he earned his bachelor's degree in history.

Also while at Aurora, Holden served as a personal trainer and lacrosse coach in charge of developing and managing a comprehensive youth development lacrosse program for school age youth with the responsibility for coordinating the development and implementation of practice plans, game scheduling, coordination with park districts, parents, and sponsors.

As a player Holden was a member and two-time assistant captain for the Chicago Outlaws Indoor Club Team and member of the Continental Indoor Lacrosse League. He has also served as head coach for Team Illinois U19 Elite travel team and assistant coach for New Wave Ion Elite team.
