Centre field hockey suffers first loss, 3-1 at Bellarmine

Box Score

The Centre field hockey team took its first loss on the season, dropping a road game 3-1 at NCAA Division II opponent Bellarmine on Tuesday in Louisville, Ky.

All the scoring came in the first half of the game, with Bellarmine getting on the board less than three minutes in and building the lead to 3-0 just inside the 10 minute mark in the first half. The Colonels responded back with a goal by Chelsea Klein (Louisville, Ky.) off a rebound just three minutes later, but it would be the final goal scored in the contest.

Centre took 17 shots to Bellarmine's eight, including a 10-0 edge in the second half, but the Colonels were unable to break through after Klein's goal. Centre also held an 11-3 advantage on penalty corners. Kirby Roberts (Louisville, Ky.) made one save while Bellarmine's Alex Moro had six stops.

For the season, the Colonels now fall to 8-1 overall while Bellarmine improves to 3-5. The Colonels return to Southern Athletic Association competition this weekend when they host Hendrix at noon on Saturday and Rhodes at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
