Box Score The Centre field hockey team dropped its second game of the season to Division II opponent Bellarmine, falling 3-2 on the team's Play For the Cure Night on Tuesday in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels were first to score in the game, with Chelsea Klein (Louisville, Ky.) scoring her team and conference-leading 17th goal of the season just seven minutes into the game.
Centre's lead would be short-lived, however, as Bellarmine tied the game just three minutes later on a goal by Kelcie Hill. The Knights went on to build their lead to 2-1 on a Rachael Walz goal just before the half, and then 3-1 on a goal by Rachael McAllister early in the second half.
Centre cut the margin in half when Courtney Kuiper (Louisville, Ky.) scored on an assist from Klein with 16 minutes to play, but despite outshooting Bellarmine 11-4 in the second half, it would be the Colonels' last of the evening.
Centre outshot Bellarmine 16-10 overall, while the Knights held a 12-6 edge in penalty corners. Kirby Roberts (Louisville, Ky.) made two saves for Centre while Megan Martiny had eight stops for Bellarmine.
Centre falls to 13-3 overall on the season while Bellarmine improves to 7-9. Centre wraps up the regular season and takes a perfect 7-0 Southern Athletic Association record into a matchup with Transylvania at 1 p.m. Saturday.
