Box Score The Centre College field hockey team scored two first half goals and held on for a 2-1 win over DePauw University in a neutral site match Saturday, August 31 in Springfield, Ohio. DePauw entered the match ranked 11th in the NFHCA preseason poll after making the NCAA semifinals a season ago.
It took only 46 seconds for senior Alexis Hebert (Chapel Hill, N.C.) to score the first goal of the match as she found the back of the cage off an assist from senior Chelsea Klein (Louisville, Ky.). The score was Hebert's second in as many matches, while the assist was the first for Klein this season.
Klein was on the scoring end of Centre's second goal as she notched her third goal of 2013 on a bouncing shot from 10 yards out.
The Tigers (1-1) got their lone goal at the 62:21 mark in the second half, but were unable to beat freshman goalkeeper Kirby Roberts (Louisville, Ky.) again even though DePauw out-shot the Colonels 29-6 with a 25-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Roberts allowed only one goal and made 10 saves for her second win of the season.
Centre will return home Friday, Sept. 6 for its home-opener against Roanoke. Start time is set for 7 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
