Box Score The Centre men's soccer team suffered its first loss since the season opener as Spalding was able to come up the game-winning goal in the second overtime period for the 3-2 result Wednesday in Danville, Ky.
Spalding, which is coached by Centre alum and former assistant Adam Boyer, got the game winner from Jackson Cantrell early in the second overtime period. The loss came just three days after the Colonels had pulled out a dramatic double overtime win against Rose-Hulman.
All the scoring came well into the second half, with Spalding getting on the board first on an own goal by the Colonels credited to Cantrell in the 65th minute. Just 10 minutes later, Centre tied the score when Connor Reed (Newbury Park, Calif.) scored on a rebound off a shot by Jack Goblirsch (Elizabethtown, Ky.). The assist was Goblirsch's fifth of the year which ties for the conference lead.
As the game went into the final 10 minutes of regulation, Spalding went back up again on a Cantrell goal, only to see the Colonels tie the score again on an Alex Seither (Louisville, Ky.) goal off an assist from Jeremy Carlson (Seattle, Wash.) with less than three minutes to play.
For the game, Centre took 23 shots to Spalding's 13, and the Colonels held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks. Ohan Missirian-Dill (Brentwood, Tenn.) made five saves for Centre while Logan Spencer had eight stops for Spalding.
With the loss, Centre drops to 5-2-2 on the season while Spalding improves to 5-5. The Colonels are off until opening Southern Athletic Association play at Berry on Oct. 5.
