DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre College men's soccer finished their Alumni Classic on a high note Sunday evening, toppling visiting Spalding, 2-0, at Amend Field.

The Colonels improved to 2-0-0 on the season – dropping the Golden Eagles to 1-1-0 – and are a perfect 4-0-0 over the first two Centre College Alumni Classics. By virtue of the victory, Centre wins the 2017 Alumni Classic, with Spalding taking second. See below for this year's Classic XI.

The home side got off 12 shots in the opening 45 minutes, but Spalding keeper Nick Lucas turned away all five that were on target.

The Golden Eagles nearly found the back of the net late in the first half when Trustun Ashburn got past the Centre defense, but Colonel goalie Bailey Spade (Frankfort, Ky.) came up large with a save that preserved the 0-0 score.

Centre finally broke through on a goal by junior Alexander Garuba (Atlanta), who put the finishing touches on senior Harrison Dunn's (Lexington, Ky.) long-ball assist.

Less than three minutes passed before senior John Herd (Colorado Springs, Colo.) sent the ball across the goal face, finding junior Jacob Haddad (Brentwood, Tenn.) for the Colonels' second score.

That proved to be plenty, as Centre controlled much of the possession down the stretch to close out the victory.

All told, Spalding managed only three shots to Centre's 29. The Colonels also finished with eight corners to the Golden Eagles' four.

Centre hits the road for a midweek contest at Thomas More this Tuesday at 5 p.m. ET, before returning home next weekend to host the 28th Annual Bob Allen Nissan Classic.
