DANVILLE, Ky. – Jaylon Hibbs amassed a program-record 221 receiving yards Saturday, helping the Centre football squad overwhelm a visiting Millsaps team en route to a 49-13 blowout on Homecoming at Farris Stadium.
The senior wideout also matched a Centre record with three touchdown grabs, as the Colonels (7-1, 5-1 SAA) trounced the Majors (4-4, 2-4) in the second half. Centre outscored its guests 35-7 across the third and fourth quarters.
HIGHLIGHTS
- After a scoreless opening quarter,
Trevor Carnell took in a 12-yard touchdown run off the right tackle to start the second period.
- A
Jaylen Jones sack helped Centre limit Millsaps to a field goal on the next possession, as the visitors went just 35 yards on 11 plays.
- The Colonels defense stood tall on the Majors' following drive, as well, holding them to a field goal after 10 plays to make it 7-6.
- Hibbs came alive for the Colonels on their last drive of the half. After catches of 29 and 48 yards, he hauled in a 5-yard touchdown pass from
Tanner Young to give Centre a 14-6 halftime lead.
- Centre would score touchdowns on five of its seven second-half drives, beginning with
Colin Burnam's plunge from two yards out.
- Following Millsaps' lone TD, Hibbs answered with a 52-yard touchdown catch from Young, making it 28-13.
- In the fourth quarter, a 10-yard
Austin Mitchell sack led to a three-and-out from the Majors.
Jordan Gunter took the ensuing punt 82 yards to the endzone, quickly adding to the Colonels' lead.
- Following another long Gunter punt return, Young found Hibbs for his record-tying third touchdown catch midway through the period.
- Reserve quarterback
John Walton capped the scoring on a 61-yard touchdown pass to rookie
Jay Becherer.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre out-gained Millsaps 467 to 353, including 316 yards through the air, on its way to a season-best 49 points. The Majors entered Saturday's game with the top-ranked scoring defense and passing defense in the league.

- Hibbs' 221 yards passed David Crowley's 218-yard effort against DePauw in 2004. The senior wideout joined a handful of others – including teammate
Cody Estep – with his three-TD outing. He accounted for eight of the Colonels' 13 catches.
- Burnam now has a rushing score in seven of eight games this season, and he and Carnell found the endzone in the same game for the fifth time.
-
Andrew Busby led all defensive players for the second weekend in a row, totaling nine tackles (seven solo).
Zach Berger was a menace up front, recording 3.5 tackles-for-loss.
