DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's soccer handled business Saturday at Andrew P. Amend Field, defeating Sewanee, 2-0, in the Southern Athletic Association Tournament quarterfinals.
The third-seeded Colonels (13-4-1) got goals from
Alexander Garuba and
Will Newton in their second victory over the Tigers (7-9-1) in the last seven days.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Garuba, the SAA's leading scorer, put Centre ahead with a blast in the 33rd minute. The 16th goal of the year puts him in a tie for second on Centre's all-time single-season scoring list.
- Newton doubled the lead in the 48th minute off an assist by
Royce Pope, marking his ninth goal of the season.
- Centre allowed just one Sewanee shot the entire second period, controlling possession until the clock hit zeroes.

- Centre would finish with a 15-5 advantage in total shots (7-2 SOG).

Bailey Spade earned his 13th total shutout of the season, improving on his program record with two saves in Saturday's clean sheet.

Centre heads to Atlanta for the rest of the SAA Tournament next week. The Colonels will meet seven-seed Millsaps Friday, Nov. 2, after the Majors upset second-seed Rhodes earlier today.
