ST. LOUIS, Mo. – After reaching their third NCAA "Sweet 16" in the past five seasons, Centre women's soccer saw its spectacular campaign come to an end against Wheaton at Francis Field in St. Louis.
The fourth-ranked Colonels (21-1), who had allowed just four goals all season, surrendered three against the 15th-ranked Thunder (19-3-1), who will advance to the NCAA "Elite Eight" against host Washington University.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Both teams' defenses were stout for much of the opening period. Centre managed just two shots in the first half – both coming from
Alana Hughes.
- Sara Bakke scored for Wheaton in the 41st minute, marking the first goal the Colonels had allowed in exactly two months. Centre had shut out its previous 15 opponents.

Keeghan Francis wasted little time leveling the score once the second half started, burying a shot off a long cross from
Jessie Turner.
- The Thunder would score twice more, however, as Nicole Wright (55') and Jensen Ellis (60') put Wheaton ahead 3-1.
- Facing their biggest deficit of the season, the Colonels would pull within one on a penalty kick goal from Francis.
- Wheaton held Centre to just two shots over the final 24 minutes, sealing the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Friday's was the first match all season in which Centre was out-shot (12-9), including an 8-5 difference in shots on goal.
- Francis tallied multiple goals for the second time this season.
