DANVILLE, Ky. – For the second night in a row the Centre women's basketball squad thrived in the final two quarters, defeating Covenant 70-52 in the finale of the Lee's Famous Recipe/Hampton Inn Classic in Alumni Gymnasium.
Centre (2-0) outscored the visiting Scots (0-2) 41-27 in the second half, shooting a blistering 15-for-25 (60%) from the floor.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Although they trailed by seven points midway through the opening quarter, the Colonels managed to pull within a possession heading to the second period.
- Centre out-scored Covenant 17-10 in the second quarter, with
Abigail Stewart netting nine points and rookie
Presley Chirico draining a 3-pointer at the buzzer, making it 29-25 at the break.
- The Colonels created more separation in the third, as
Madison Rice hit both of her 3-point attempts to help spark a 25-13 advantage across the 10 minutes. Centre also out-rebounded Covenant 14-6 in the quarter.
- Centre led by at least 14 points the rest of the way, peaking at 21 points following a
Cheyenne Bunner basket that made it 63-42.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Stewart led all players with 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting, hitting all five free throws. She also paced the team with eight rebounds and added two blocks.

Kat Wilson followed with 12 points, while Chirico finished with seven points, two assists and two blocks in her first collegiate game.
Abigail Wehby led the team with three assists.
- The Colonels hit nearly 52% (27-52) from the field, and had a sizeable 36-22 edge in points in the paint.
