Men's soccer blanks Georgetown, 3-0

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre men's soccer capped off a pristine opening weekend Sunday evening, defeating in-state foe Georgetown by a 3-0 margin at Amend Field.

The Colonels, who have defeated the Tigers each of the last three seasons, are 2-0 with shutouts in each match to start the season. Georgetown falls to 1-3 with the loss.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The Tigers' Jacob Roberts stole the early headlines, making multiple saves throughout the opening stages to keep Centre off the scoreboard.
- That changed in the 25th minute, however, when Will Newton set the table for Nick Mazzarella's first goal of the season, giving the hosts a 1-0 edge.
- Roberts impressed again in the 33rd minute, saving a Newton penalty try, but the Colonels would add a late goal as Dylan Barth netted a rebound off of Alexander Garuba's shot.
- Centre would tack on a goal in the closing minutes of the game on a Jacob Haddad header. Logan Dehner fed the assist.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre held a 22 to 2 shot advantage in the first half, but Georgetown slightly out-shot the Colonels in the second, nine to six.
- The Colonels had nine corner kicks to Georgetown's three.
- Bailey Spade needed just two saves en route to his second consecutive clean sheet. Roberts finished with 11 saves in the loss.
- Royce Pope led all players with six shots, putting three on target.
