Â
On TapÂ
- Centre meets Maryville for the first time in eight seasons Saturday, traveling to face the Scots in the first road game of 2018.
Â
Series HistoryÂ
- Centre holds a 33-28-1 series advantage over Maryville.
- The two teams have not met since 2010, a 35-0 Centre shutout victory in Tennessee.Â
Â
The Last MeetingÂ
Centre 35, Maryville 0 (9.11.10)Â
- The Colonels blanked Maryville, scoring 29 of their 35 points in the second half to run away from the host Scots.
- Centre totaled more than 375 total yards in the victory, and would go on to finish the 2010 campaign 6-4 overall.Â
Â
Last Time OutÂ
- Trailing 12-0 in the third quarter, the Colonels stormed back to defeat Hanover, 28-18, in last Saturday's season opener.
- Centre scored all 28 points across 16 minutes of game time, as
Tanner Young tossed touchdown passes to
Jaylon Hibbs and
Jordan Gunter. Running backs
Colin Burnam and
Trevor Carnell each ran the ball in, as well, with the latter's 56-yard scamper sealing the win.
- The Colonels' defense kept the home side in the fight for much of the game, led by stellar individual efforts from
Andrew Busby (9 tackles, 2 QBH),
Alec Fontaine (9 tackles),
Cal Lewellyn (8 tackles, 2 PBRUP) and a host of others.
Â
Special Effort
- Senior
Cody Estep was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week as a special teams performer. He blocked two Hanover PATs, and set up the Colonels at their own 44-yard line after a clutch fourth quarter kickoff return.
Â
Out of Conference Success
- Centre has not lost a non-conference game since the 2014 NCAA Tournament at John Carroll. It hasn't dropped a regular season game out of conference since 2013, compiling a 9-0 record since.
Â
Scouting the Scots
- Maryville dropped a 38-3 decision last Saturday at Berry, managing just a field goal against the defending Southern Athletic Association champs.
- The Scots surrendered 368 yards of total offense to the Vikings, including 265 through the air as Berry's Tate Adcock completed 20 of 33 passes for two scores.
- Maryville employed four different quarterbacks in the loss, and they combined to go 23-for-38 with a pair of interceptions.
- A total of eight Scots carried the ball, though QB Trevor Thomas (31 yards) managed the most yards on the ground.
Â
Next WeekÂ
- Next week the Colonels will travel to Conway, Ark., for a crucial game at Hendrix to start the SAA slate.
- Centre holds a slight 3-2 edge against Hendrix, including a 52-42 shootout victory last season in Danville. Estep ran the opening kickoff back for the touchdown, and the Colonels fended off a late push from the Warriors to hold on for the victory.
- The Colonels are 1-1 in Conway, with a 35-26 win in 2014 and 35-28 loss in 2016.
