MARYVILLE, Tenn. –Centre football overwhelmed Maryville by a 40-6 margin Saturday afternoon at Honaker Field, winning its first road contest of the year and 10th straight regular season non-conference game.
The Colonels checked all the boxes in the programs' first meeting since 2010, improving to 2-0 while dropping the Scots to 0-2.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre started with a bang as
Cody Estep caught a pass and took it 61 yards to set up a goal-to-go opportunity on the first play. The Colonels would settle for a 26-yard
Ben Logsdon field goal.
- The Scots drove down the field for a touchdown on their opening drive in response, but the PAT was blocked by
Andre Evans and
John Wilson took it other way for two points.
- The Colonels would go on to score 35 more unanswered points, beginning with an 8-yard rushing touchdown from
Colin Burnam.
- Centre's special teams squashed a promising Maryville drive early in the second, as
Cody Estep blocked a field goal attempt and
Nate Johnson scooped it up and took it 69 yards to the house.

Trevor Carnell capped off a quick two-play, 71-yard drive with his second rushing score of the season, bringing the lead to 26-6.
- Two possessions later, the Colonels quickly scored again on two plays, as
Jaylon Hibbs hauled in a 43-yard touchdown pass from
Tanner Young, making it 33-6 at the half.
- The only points of the second half came from a 98-yard touchdown pass between Young and
Mack Cox on a 3rd-and-12.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- With Centre's offense scoring quickly, Maryville had 88 snaps to the Colonels' 53, and had the majority of possession (35:48).
- Centre's
Tanner Young had 349 passing yards on 13 completions, as Hibbs and Cox each totaled 100-plus yards on four or fewer catches. Estep had 66 yards on two catches.
- Maryville rushed for 257 yards, averaging 5.0 yards per carry, but managed only 88 yards through the air.

Jaylen Jones led all players with 10 tackles, and
Nate Johnson,
Cal Lewellyn and
Connor John followed with seven apiece. John also totaled 2.5 sacks and three tackles for loss.

Tommy Kaczocha picked off Maryville's Trevor Thomas late in the second quarter, returning it 22 yards.

Jake Holloway punted four times for a 38.5-yard average, pinning Maryville inside the 20-yard line three times.
