ATLANTA – Centre men's basketball thrashed Oglethorpe on the "blacktop" of Dorough Field House Friday evening, winning by a 77-54 margin to remain perfect in Southern Athletic Association play.
The Colonels (13-2, 4-0 SAA) shot lights from start to finish, vanquishing the Stormy Petrels (7-8, 1-3) with 14 3-pointers and a 54% shooting mark overall.
Tucker Sine led the way with 14 points, followed by
Art Walker's 13.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels' hot touch was evident early on, as they started 7 of 9 from the field to race out to a 17-11 lead.
- Their first double figure lead came at 23-13 near the 12-minute mark following a Sine 3-pointer.
- Centre finished the opening half 7 of 11 from deep, carrying a 42-30 advantage into the break. The Colonels also out-rebounded their hosts 21-9.
- The Colonels embarked on a devastating 22-2 run to start the second half, putting the outcome out of reach while grabbing a 64-32 lead.
- Oglethorpe never got the deficit under 23 points the rest of the way.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Centre hit 29 of 54 overall and 14 of 27 from 3-point range. Sine hit four 3-pointers and Walker hit three.
- A total of 11 Colonels scored in the rout, with
Perry Ayers,
Dawson Crump and
Jarod Griffin each hitting a pair of 3-pointers to add to the long range numbers.
- The Colonels out-rebounded the Petrels 40-27, led by Ayers' seven boards. The junior matched
Bailey Rakes with a team-high four assists, as well.
