JACKSON, Miss. – Despite some late-game heroics in regulation, Centre football fell 20-17 in overtime Saturday against Millsaps at Harper Davis Field.
The Colonels drop to 2-3 overall and 0-3 in the Southern Athletic Association, facing the program's first three-game skid since the 2004 season. Millsaps improves to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the SAA.
HIGHLIGHTS
- After forcing a punt on the game's opening drive, the Colonels had their own first drive stymied with an interception in the end zone.
- Defenses carried the way early for both teams, with six combined punts on the first seven possessions.
- Millsaps would open the scoring in the second quarter, capitalizing on a short field after taking over at Centre's 32-yard line. Amryn Jeffrey hit Moise Tezzo for a 21-yard touchdown pass.
- The Majors were moving again late in the second quarter, but
Keanan John picked off a pass from Jeffrey in the redzone to halt the drive.
- Centre's first drive of the second half showed promise, as the Colonels got to 1st and Goal from the five before the Millsaps' defense clamped down and forced a
Tanner Young field goal. The nine-play, 63-yard drive was the longest of the day for the Colonels to that point.
- The Majors' Hunter Sellen connected on a 26-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter, making it 10-3 while giving Centre limited time remaining.
- Needing a touchdown, Centre's drive seemed to stall after
Clark Payne was sacked to set up 4th and 16 with under a minute to play.
- With the game on the line, Payne hit
Mack Cox on a Hail-Mary-esque 34-yard touchdown pass.

Nate Johnson picked off Jeffrey on the Majors' next possession, securing overtime.
- Millsaps hit paydirt in the opening overtime possession, but Centre answered as
Zarian Hunter Cure plunged into the endzone and South connected on the PAT.
- The Majors' Christian Roberts made a timely play on the ensuing possession, coming up with an interception to put the home team in control.
- Sellen would chip in a 21-yard field goal to lift the Majors past the Colonels.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Neither offense found much success against the opposing defense, although Centre out-gained Millsaps by a slim 300-291 margin in total yards. The Colonels held the Majors to just 63 yards on 30 carries.
- Centre surrendered 13 penalties for 123 yards, seven of which resulted in first downs for Millsaps.

Jake Holloway punted five times for an average of 40.6 yards, booming two punts 50-plus yards.

Jaylen Jones led Centre with eight tackles, while
Keanan John and
Andre Evans totaled six apiece.
Ryan Smith had two tackles for loss and one sack.
