ATLANTA - Earlier this morning the Southern Athletic Association released its postseason awards for the 2019 volleyball season and Centre had two players on this year's All-SAA squads - senior Peyton Vacala and rookie Meredith Phillips.

After earning All-SAA Honorable Mention each of the last three seasons, Vacala was named to the All-SAA Second Team as a senior in 2019. Vacala ranked third in the conference with 425 digs during the regular season and second in the league in digs per set at 5.67. During her senior season, she became the first Centre player to surpass 1,500 career digs since sets went from 30 points to 25 in 2007, ending the regular season with 1,583 digs for her career, good for sixth all time at Centre. She also had a career high 39 digs against Hendrix, the third highest total in a game in program history.

Phillips entered the starting lineup for the Colonels during the first weekend of the season and had an excellent rookie year, voted All-SAA Honorable Mention by the coaches. Phillips ranked third in the league with 592 assists in the regular season with an average of 8.22 assists per set. In addition, Phillips tied Vacala for the team lead with 27 aces during the season.

The major awards were split between Berry and Birmingham-Southern. The Vikings' Carson VanCampen and Laura Beier were named SAA Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively. The Panthers' Alyssa Coats earned Newcomer of the Year while Haven O'Quinn was Coach of the Year.
