Centre volleyball closes regular season at WashU Tournament

ST. LOUIS – The Centre volleyball team capped off its regular season in tournament action at no. 25 Washington University, losing to the host Bears and DePauw in a Saturday doubleheader.

HIGHLIGHTS

- Against Washington, the Bears grabbed the early lead and held off several Centre rallies to take a 25-20 opening set victory. The second set was back and forth, but the Bears scored four straight halfway through and the Colonels never got within less than two the rest of the way as WashU won 25-21.
- In the third set against the Bears, the Colonels again had to play from behind, but Centre used a 10-1 run – including a pair of aces from Bailey Vernon – to take the lead for good and hold onto a 25-23 win over no. 25 WashU. The fourth set was close the whole way, but with the score tied at 19, the Bears scored six of the next seven points to take a four-set win.
- Against DePauw, the Tigers jumped out to an early 10-2 lead and never looked back in the first set, winning 25-17. Centre used a 6-0 run with three blocks from Katie Hall to erase an early deficit in the second set, but the Tigers would score the last six points to win 25-18.
- The third set played out in a similar fashion to the first, with DePauw jumping out to a big lead in the early stages and holding off a late Centre rally to take a 25-19 win.
