Colonels stun Lynx with fourth quarter comeback

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Centre women's basketball used a late 12-1 run to complete a come-from-behind victory at Rhodes Friday evening, stunning the host Lynx in Southern Athletic Association action inside Mallory Gymnasium.

After trailing by as much as 14 points in the second half, the Colonels (11-10, 4-6 SAA) stormed back to complete the season sweep over Rhodes (11-10, 4-6).

Centre won the first meeting in a similarly narrow 60-56 decision in Alumni Gymnasium back on Jan. 4.

HIGHLIGHTS
- It took the better part of four minutes for either side to crack the scoreboard, but a late flurry capped by a Madison Rice 3-pointer had Centre on top, 12-11, after one quarter.
- The Lynx out-scored the Colonels 18-8 in the second quarter, however, using a couple of late 3-pointers to carry a 29-20 lead into the break.
- A jumper from Allie Young at the 1:35 mark in the third quarter saw the hosts take their biggest lead of the game, 39-25.
- Centre would go to work chipping away at the deficit with a triple from Kat Wilson and a late layup from Abigail Wehby to end the period.
- The Colonels hit three 3-pointers to start the fourth quarter, two of which came from Wilson.
- Wehby then connected on a three to tie the game at 44-44 with just over three minutes remaining
- Following a block from Wilson, Wehby sank a pair of free throws to officially bring the Colonels all the way, taking a 46-44 lead with 38 seconds remaining.
- Abigail Stewart would hit a couple of freebies on Centre's next possession, and Lakken Miller helped preserve the lead with a block on Rhodes' final 3-point try.
