NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The 24th-ranked Christopher Newport Captains proved a bit too much for the Centre women's tennis squad Sunday morning, winning by a 7-2 score in a hard-fought match.
Centre slips to 2-5 overall with its fourth meeting against a nationally-ranked opponent, while CNU improves to 5-4.

Emily Zelichenok would help secure both points for the Colonels, beginning with a narrow 8-7 victory with
Katharine Sherman in No. 3 doubles over Reagan Delp and Kara Ferner.
- The Captains claimed both doubles 1 and 2 by an 8-5 score.
- Zelichenok picked up her second straight set singles victory in as many days, defeating Alison Burgen 6-0, 6-4 in the No. 6 slot.
- Christopher Newport took the remaining singles matches, however, though Centre proved a tough opponent.

Caroline Stallings took Amanda Yermal to three sets in No. 4 before fall by a 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 score.
- Sherman competed at No. 1 singles against Johanna Ranta-Aho, who entered ranked among the nation's top 20 individuals. The Colonel rookie was bested by the junior, 6-3, 6-0.
