Colonels open Florida trip with DH split against Blue Jays

** UPDATED STATS WILL BE ADDED WHEN THEY BECOME AVAILABLE **

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. –
Centre baseball split a doubleheader with Westminster (Mo.) Sunday to open play at the RussMatt Invitational, dropping the opener 3-1 before rebounding with a 3-2 victory.

The Colonels' record moves to 11-5 overall while the Blue Jays finish the day at 1-4.

HIGHLIGHTS: WESTMINSTER 3, CENTRE 1 (7 inn.)
The Blue Jays claimed a pitchers' duel in the first meeting, as the teams combined for four runs and just seven hits.

Centre plated a run in the top of the third to take a 1-0 lead. Cameron Duggins led off with a base hit to left, and eventually came in on Will Kirk's RBI single.

Starter Chris Esselman faced the minimum through three innings, but Westminster would plate three in the fourth to take a lead it wouldn't relinquish.

HIGHLIGHTS: CENTRE 3, WESTMINSTER 2 (7 inn.)
Centre bounced back in the second seven-inning contest, doing all its damage in the fifth inning to complete a comeback victory.

After a couple of scoreless frames, the Blue Jays' Shifren and Packer would each reach base and come around to score in the third, making it 2-0 in favor of Westminster.

Mason Falbo began the three-run rally for the Colonels in the fifth with a one-out double. Seth Hagan reached on an error, and Jake Holloway singled to drive home Falbo.

Esselman kept it going with an infield single, and Duggins tied the game with a sacrifice fly that brought in Hagan. Holloway would score the game-winning run later in the inning.

Nick Hoffman threw six innings in the victory, and Drew Schacht earned the save.
