AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Centre baseball fell by an 8-4 score against Rutgers-Newark Monday afternoon in the RussMatt Invitational.
Centre drops to 11-6 overall with the defeat.
HIGHLIGHTS
The Scarlet Raiders got off to a hot start with a pair of runs in the first, highlighted by Luke Magliaro's homer to left field.
Centre got one back in the bottom of the frame as
Drew Schacht scored on an error, and
Mason Falbo hit a sacrifice fly in the third to tie the game at 2-2.
Rutgers-Newark plated five runs across the fifth and sixth innings to take a lead it wouldn't lose.
The Colonels cut into the deficit with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Jake Holloway doubled to left, scoring
Seth Hagan, then came around himself on
Chris Esselman's RBI single.
Centre used four pitchers in the loss, including three rookies. Sophomore
Hogan Brownley led the bunch, tossing three innings while allowing just one hit and an unearned run, striking out four.
