Centre stifles Huntingdon in 12-6 road triumph

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Centre men's lacrosse led nearly wire to wire Monday in a victory over Huntingdon, defeating the host Hawks by a 12-6 score at Samford Stadium.

The Colonels (4-3), who fell 8-3 on the same field a season ago, got hat tricks from John Morrison and Jack Shannon in Monday's win against the Hawks (5-5).

HIGHLIGHTS
- Will Lathram netted the game's first goal roughly three-and-a-half minutes in, getting an assist from Chase Poplin
- The Hawks got one back, but consecutive scores from Shannon and Poplin regained the lead for the Colonels.
- Leland Gray and Nic Malubay got in on the scoring in the later stages of the second quarter, giving Centre a 5-2 lead.
- Centre held Huntingdon off the board for nearly the entire second quarter, but the Hawks' Seth Howe found the back of the net with just 21 seconds left to make it 5-3.
- Immediately following the goal, Jack Pharies won the faceoff for Centre, and Shannon scored mere seconds before the half to push the lead up to 6-3.
- Centre denied a second-half comeback bid from Huntingdon, out-scoring its hosts in both the third and fourth quarters.
- Morrison scored all three of his goals in the second half.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Morrison and Shannon had four points each, while Malubay and Poplin provided two assists apiece.
- The Colonels claimed two-thirds of the faceoffs, with Lucas Mozingo going 9-for-14 and Pharies finishing 5-for-7.
