Colonels end Florida trip with win over Hamilton

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Centre baseball team ended their Spring Break stay in Florida with a 9-6 victory over the Hamilton Continentals in the RussMatt Invitational.

HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels got off to a quick start when Will Kirk was hit by a pitch and Drew Schacht walked in the game's first two at-bats.
- After a wild pitch moved the runners up, singles by Patrick Hope and Jake Holloway drove them home, and then Chris Esselman smashed a triple into the gap to give the Colonels their third run of the first inning.
- Centre went up 4-0 after Parker Selin doubled, advanced to third on an error and Kirk singled to bring him in.
- The Continentals tacked on a pair of runs in the third after a leadoff homer and a wild pitch. Another wild pitch in the fourth allowed Hamilton to score one more run and make it 4-3, but Cameron Duggins ended the rally with a strike to second base to nail Joe Suski on an attempted steal.
- In the top of the fifth, Centre added an insurance run as Holloway scored on a Duggins sacrifice fly.
- Hamilton cut the Centre lead to 5-4 in the sixth inning as the Continentals scored their third run of the day on a Centre wild pitch, but Jordan Gunter and Paul Fiepke pitched out of trouble and Centre responded the next time they were up to bat.
- The Colonels sent eight batters to the plate in the seventh inning, finishing with one walk, four hits and three runs. Selin, Schacht and Austin Sharkey drove in the runs for the Colonels during the rally.
- After Hamilton scored two runs in the seventh, Centre put the final run on the board in the ninth as Selin scored on a Kirk double.
