MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Centre men's lacrosse fell behind early and couldn't keep up at Rhodes Friday evening, falling by a 16-8 score at Crain Field in Southern Athletic Association action.
The Colonels slide to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in the SAA, having their league-best six-game winning stream snapped by the host Lynx (12-3, 5-0 SAA).
HIGHLIGHTS
- Despite getting 10 shots off in the opening 10 minutes, the Colonels were in a hole early after Rhodes scored three times within a 70-second span in the first quarter.
- The Lynx scored three to open the second, as well, commanding a 6-0 advantage.

Leland Gray put Centre on the board near the 7:45 mark of the second period, getting an assist from
Nic Malubay.
- Rhodes would score twice more, however, and took an 8-1 advantage into the halftime break. The Lynx controlled eight of the first half's 11 faceoffs to help control possession.

JR Brockman forced an early turnover in the third quarter, leading to a goal from
Chase Poplin.
- Malubyay scored a goal of his own less than a minute later off of
Jack Shannon's assist, trimming the deficit to 8-3.
- The Lynx would go on a 5-1 stretch across the rest of the third, however, with Gray's second goal the lone marker for the Colonels.
- Shannon and
Anthony DiMichele netted a couple of unassisted goals to open the fourth, and
Padraic Dermody capped the game with a pair, but Rhodes would claim a 16-8 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Rhodes out-shot Centre 50-39, and held a slight 38-31 edge in ground balls.
- The Colonels fared much better in faceoffs in across the second half, winning 10 of 17.

Jack Pharies set career highs with 10 faceoff wins and six ground balls. Brockman finished with five ground balls.
- Shannon totaled a pair of assists and a goal, leading the Colonels with three points.

Connor Jongewaard recorded 15 saves in-goal.
