JACKSON, Miss. – Centre women's tennis claimed a battle of regionally-ranked programs Sunday, defeating Millsaps, 5-1, for their sixth straight victory of the Southern Athletic Association slate.
The Colonels, ranked ninth in the Atlantic South Region by the ITA, improve to 8-6 and 6-1 in the SAA to secure the 2-seed in the conference tournament. The host Majors entered ranked 10th in the region, and fall to 11-5 (3-2 SAA).
HIGHLIGHTS
- The tone was set at No. 1 doubles, where two top-ten duos in the region squared off.
Neha Rao and
Hannah Doherty dominated Millsaps' Grace Gaskins and Maggie Dabadie, 8-3.

Emily Zelichenok and
Katharine Sherman were next to finish, claiming their No. 3 doubles match over Jillian Sandoz and Morgan Jenkins, 8-3.
- Centre took a commanding 3-0 lead after
Abigail Kent and
Caroline Stallings won No. 2 doubles against Ella Shields and Morris Kelley Clayton, 8-5.
- Gaskins was able to get a point back for Millsaps at No. 1 singles over Sherman, 6-4, 6-2, in a meeting of ranked singles players.
- Rao dropped Dabadie at No. 2, 6-4, 6-3, and Kent would clinch the match with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles.
