DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's tennis celebrated Senior Day Saturday morning with a lopsided 9-0 victory over visiting Oglethorpe in a meeting between regionally-ranked Southern Athletic Association programs.
The Colonels improve to 5-6 overall and 3-1 in the SAA with their third consecutive victory, moving the visiting Stormy Petrels to 7-4 (0-3 SAA).
Prior to the match, Centre honored the careers of seniors
Abigail Kent,
Neha Rao and
Emily Zelichenok.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Rao and Zelichenok – once a regionally-ranked duo as freshmen – paired to defeat Shannon Cruz and Lisette Phillips in No. 1 doubles, 8-4. It was their first match together of the season, and they rallied from four games down to earn the win.
- Kent and
Caroline Stallings won a close No. 2 doubles match, 8-7, over Elizabeth Bielicki and Charlotte Disley, marking the pair's third win in the past four matches.
- With only five eligible players, Oglethorpe took default losses at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

Katharine Sherman claimed her No. 1 singles match following Cruz's retirement. Sherman had won the first set, 6-2.
- At No. 2 singles, Rao cruised past Disley, 6-0, 6-2, for her third straight victory.
- Kent took No. 3 singles over Delay Abood, 6-1, 6-0, also winning her third consecutive match.

Hannah Doherty handled Bielicki at No. 4, 6-4, 6-2, pushing her personal singles streak up to four in a row.
- Zelichenok picked up a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Phillips at No. 5 to round out the scoresheet. It marked her third individual win in as many matches.
