DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's tennis opened their 2019-20 season with a resounding 9-0 victory against in-state rival Transylvania Wednesday afternoon, competing on the newly refinished Centre Tennis Courts.
The Colonels (1-0) won all six singles matches in straight sets against the Pioneers (2-1), and surrendered just five games in the three doubles victories.
DOUBLES
- Centre's No. 3 double duo of
Lainey Hill and
Caroline Lancaster defeated Erin Biddle and Christina Duvall in an 8-0 rout to open the scoring.
- The sophomore tandem of
Grace Headley and
Katharine Sherman followed with an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles against Merrick Irwin and Alyssa Igyarto.

Caroline Stallings and
Hannah Doherty capped the doubles sweep with an 8-3 decision over Porsche Robinson and Jessica Burton.
SINGLES
- Rookie
Ella Rueff began her collegiate career with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles against Duvall, making the overall score 4-0.
- Lancaster would clinch the match at No. 5 singles, defeating Igyarto, 6-2, 6-2.
- Centre went on to win the final four singles bouts, as well, with Headley's 6-2, 6-2 win against Biddle finishing next.
- Elsewhere, Sherman handed Robinson a 6-1, 6-4 defeat at No. 1 doubles.
- On court two, Stallings won 6-3, 6-0 against Burton, and at No. 3 Doherty was a 6-4, 6-0 winner over Irwin.
