MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Centre volleyball team won its third straight contest with a 3-0 victory over the Rhodes Lynx on Saturday afternoon.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The opening set was closely contested from the start, with Rhodes answering every Centre rally with one of their own. With the score tied at 18, the two teams traded the next eight points until a Rhodes block put the Lynx up 23-22 and prompted a timeout from Patrick Robidoux. Centre responded well to the timeout as Aby Dallas tied the game with the kill and the Colonels took the lead after a Rhodes error. Rhodes scored the next point, forcing the set to extra points, but another Lynx error put Centre at set point and Katie Hall and Savanna Roper combined on the winning block for the 26-24 victory.
- The second set was easier on the nerves as the Colonels broke open a 10-10 tie with a 9-1 run midway through the frame. The Colonels cruised from there to a 25-16 win.
- Rhodes controlled the early stages of the third set, but another huge Centre run proved to be the difference maker. Trailing 11-9, Centre rallied with a 10-1 run, controlling the set for the rest of the way en route to a 25-20 victory and completing the sweep.
