DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's basketball claimed a 61-52 victory over Birmingham-Southern Friday evening inside Alumni Gymnasium, moving into third place in the Southern Athletic Association standings.
The Colonels (12-9, 6-4 SAA) and Panthers (13-8, 5-5) were tied on the league table entering Friday's contest, but Centre created some separation with a comeback win despite being shorthanded.
Kat Wilson led all players with 19 points, while
Mikayla Fee turned in a 13 point, 13 rebound double-double.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre deployed a stingy defense to start the game, taking a 10-2 lead following Wilson's traditional 3-point play with four left in the quarter.
- The Panthers, who committed six turnovers in the opening period, pulled within 12-9 heading to the second.
- Wilson and Fee combined for a 7-0 run to open the next frame, giving Centre a double figure lead at 19-9.
- Birmingham-Southern closed the half on a 15-0 stretch, however, keeping the Colonels off the board for nearly six minutes to wipe out Centre's advantage and take a 26-21 lead into the break.

Kylee Murray sank a late 3-pointer to end the third quarter, bringing Centre within 38-35 at the start of the fourth.
- The Colonels dominated the final quarter, scoring 26 across the last 10 minutes to complete the come-from-behind victory.
- Fee and
Madison Marcum knocked down a couple 3-pointers to help a 12-2 run that saw Centre grab a 47-42 lead midway through the period.
- The Panthers would rally to tie the game at 47-47, but Fee again connected from long range and
Abigail Wehby scored seven in a row to help the Colonels ice the game.
- Centre ultimately hit 8 of 12 from the field in the fourth – including three 3-pointers – while sinking 7 of 10 free throws.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Colonels finished with a remarkable 18 offensive rebounds, with Fee accounting for five and Murray and
Josie Thacker grabbing three each. That led to 13 second chance points.
- Centre finished with 18 points off of 14 BSC turnovers.
- The Panthers scored 36 points in the paint, but hit just two free throws compared to Centre's 15.
- Centre's lineup of Wehby, Murray, Wilson, Marcum and Fee played for four minutes together, outscoring BSC 16-3 while accounting for nine rebounds.
