ATLANTA – Centre men's basketball fell by an 83-60 score Saturday afternoon against Oglethorpe, playing its second consecutive game in Dorough Field House.
The Stormy Petrels (2-0) used a second half run to put away the Colonels (0-2), and got a 27-point outing from senior Dimetri Chambers.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre held a slight lead early on following consecutive buckets from
Marshall Taylor.
- An 11-3 run from the Petrels put the home side ahead, 19-14, by the under-12 media break.
- The Colonels continued to hang around, erasing the deficit to tie the game at 31-31 after a traditional 3-point play from
Noah Ring.
- Oglethorpe quickly jumped back ahead, however, and using a 14-2 run carried a 45-33 lead into the half. Chambers had 23 points at the break for the Petrels.
- Centre began the second half on a positive note, cutting the deficit to six points at 51-45 after a basket from
Chez Moore.
- The Petrels pulled away again, and the Colonels couldn't keep pace down the stretch.

Jalen Williams led Centre with 12 points, while Moore totaled 11 with seven rebounds.
- For the second game in a row the Colonels out-rebounded the Petrels.
RJ Smith hauled in a career-high 10 boards, and
Pete Knochelmann brought in nine.

Centre hosts Rhodes next weekend in its 2021 home opener. The Colonels and Lynx begin a two-game set Saturday, Jan. 23, at 4 p.m. inside Alumni Gymnasium.
