Centre celebrates Senior Day in 3-0 shutout win over Hendrix

DANVILLE, Ky. – The 14th-ranked Centre women's soccer team defeated visiting Hendrix by a 3-0 score Sunday, celebrating Senior Day at Andrew P. Amend Field.
 
The Colonels improve to 13-1-1 overall and 6-0 in the Southern Athletic Association, winning their 10th match in a row, while sending the Warriors to 7-5-1 overall with a 3-3 mark within conference play.
 
By virtue of a 1-1 tie between Rhodes and Sewanee this afternoon, Centre also clinches its seventh consecutive SAA regular season championship.
 
Prior to the match, Centre celebrated the careers of seniors Ashley Brangers, Kenendy Cline, Julia Doran, Ellie Faber, Taylor Gebhart, Gabrielle Gilkison, Elizabeth Nelson, Katie Sharp, Brooke Smithson and Cameron Zak.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
- A pair of seniors connected to open the scoring for Centre. Faber dribbled toward the middle of the field, then found Gebhart on the right wing who converted toward the far post to make it 1-0.
- The Colonels maintained that same lead for over 60 minutes of game play, dominating possession and keeping the ball on their attacking half of the pitch.
- Gebhart broke through again in the 81st minute, finishing a pass in from Bri Tilley on the left side of the 18-yard box. Megan Sidaway helped set up the score after winning possession in midfield and feeding Tilley.
- Maggie Corbett closed the scoring in the 88th minute, finding some space a firing a rocket from outside the penalty area to beat the keeper.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Gebhart's goals gave her six for the season and three in the past two matches. It marked the second two-goal outing of her career.
- Corbett's score was her third of the season.
- Centre finished with a 22-1 advantage in total shots taken, putting 10 on goal. Gebhart led all individuals with four shots.
- Jonelle Barron played all 90 minutes in goal for the Colonels.
 
UP NEXT
Centre closes the regular season next Saturday, Oct. 23, at home against Sewanee at 1 p.m.
