Colonels beat Warriors 2-1 to advance to SAA semifinals

DANVILLE, Ky. – After a scoreless first half, the Centre men's soccer team rode an aggressive second half performance to a 2-1 victory over the Hendrix Warriors in the quarterfinals of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

- Although neither team dented the scoreboard in the first half, the period did not lack for action as Haydon Korfhage made a couple of critical saves to preserve the tie as the Warriors outshot the Colonels 4-2 in the first 45 minutes.
- The beginning of the second half brought about a far more aggressive Centre squad as the Colonels fired off three shots in the opening five minutes.
- Ten minutes into the second half, Korfhage made a huge stop of a Hendrix attempt and less than a minute later, Sota Ippongi broke the seal with a goal following an assist from Drew Davidson.
- After a yellow card against Hendrix, the Colonels were granted a penalty kick and leading scorer Nathan Wilcox capitalized to give Centre a 2-0 lead with 30 minutes left.
- Korfhage made another big save in the 80th minute, but the Warriors finally got on the board after a penalty kick by Will Kelton. Kelton had another scoring opportunity a minute later, but Korfhage denied it and the Colonels held Hendrix without a shot the rest of the way to hold on for the 2-1 win.
