Lynx deny Colonels’ comeback bid in regular season finale

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre volleyball played its second five-setter in the last four days Sunday, falling to Rhodes by scores of 29-27, 26-24, 19-25, 20-25 and 15-12 inside Alumni Gymnasium.
 
The Colonels drop to 17-8 overall and wrap up the Southern Athletic Association schedule with an 8-6 record. The visiting Lynx improve to 9-14 overall and 3-11 in-conference.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre rallied to take late leads in the first and second sets, which were both tightly contested. Despite seven kills from Isabel Thornton in the opening frame, the Lynx held on for a 29-27 win. They totaled seven team blocks to take the second, 26-24.
- The Colonels led wire to wire in the third set, ultimately winning by a 25-19 final. Katie Hall ended the stanza with a solo block and as a team Centre hit .364 during the set.
- In the fourth, Centre and Rhodes were tied at 10-10 before a run from the Colonels, sparked by kills from Eleanor Davis and Brooke Palmer.
- Rhodes eventually took the decisive fifth set after a late 5-0 flurry, 15-12.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Lily Hendricks led Centre with 19 digs, followed by Madi Barron's 16 and June Padilla's career-high 12.
- Thornton paced the Colonel attack, totaling 15 kills while hitting .217. Davis recorded 14 kills at an impressive .343 attacking clip, while Palmer and Hall had 13 and 11 kills, respectively.
- Meredith Phillips matched her season high with 47 assists.
- Davis also tallied a team-high four blocks while Hall had three. Padilla led Centre with four service aces.
- Rhodes finished with 15.5 blocks, good for a season high.
 
UP NEXT
Centre begins the postseason next weekend at the SAA Tournament, hosted by Berry. The Colonels are the four-seed in the event and will take on five-seed Sewanee. Centre defeated Sewanee twice this season, each match going five full sets.
