Colonels suffer first loss on the road at Trinity

SAN ANTONIO – Centre football dropped its first contest of the season Saturday, falling by a … score at Trinity in Southern Athletic Association action.

Both teams were receiving votes in the latest AFCA and D3football.com polls, but the host Tigers (4-0, 2-0 SAA) prevailed over the Colonels (4-1, 1-1) behind a stout defensive effort.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Trinity jumped on top by two scores after touchdown passes on its first two possessions.
- The Colonels got on the board early in the second quarter, as Trentin Dupper delivered an outstanding 32-yard touchdown pass to Sam Murray while evading a handful of Tiger defenders.
- Tucker Horn and the Trinity offense continued to churn, however, and the quarterback threw his third touchdown of the game on a 4th & 8 that put the home side back in front by two scores.
- Consecutive sacks from Oliver Hunter and Joseph Becherer forced Trinity's first punt of the afternoon late in the second quarter, but the offense was unable to put points up and the score remained 21-7 at the half.
- In the third quarter, the Tigers capitalized on a fake punt conversion to set up a Horn rushing touchdown.
- Centre was forced to punt on its first four drives in the second half, failing to cross midfield against Trinity's defense.
