ATLANTA – Centre men's soccer saw its season come to a close Saturday, falling in penalty kicks against No. 17 Emory after playing to a 1-1 draw at the Woodruff PE Center.
The Colonels end their season 10-5-4 overall while the host Eagles advance to the Second Round at 9-3-5.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre's
Nathan Wilcox put a low shot on target in the opening minute of the contest, but Emory did not allow another attempt the rest of the period.
- Michel Vogt came up with a timely block later in the half to help preserve the 0-0 score into the break.
- The Eagles got on the board in the 61st minute after Charlie Scruton converted a headed assist from Ethan Cohen.
- The Colonels answered 12 minutes later, as
Jean-Karlo Gonzalez played a long ball in to
Sota Ippongi, who beat the keeper and slotted home the equalizer. It was his seventh goal of the season.
- Centre out-shot Emory 5-3 in the two overtime sessions, but the score remained 1-1 through 110 minutes.
- In penalty kicks,
Haydon Korfhage blocked Emory's third attempt to briefly give the Colonels the advantage. The Eagles rallied, however, and ultimately claimed a 4-3 win in penalty kicks.
