DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's basketball dropped a 62-53 contest against Maryville Saturday afternoon, closing the Holiday Inn-Hampton Inn Danville Classic in Alumni Gymnasium.
The Colonels fall to 2-2 overall while the Scots earn their first victory, improving to 1-3.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Much like they did Friday evening, the Colonels turned in a solid opening quarter to grab control of the lead. Centre hit nearly 50% from the floor – including a trio of 3-pointers – to lead 17-14 through 10 minutes. Five Colonels scored during the period, led by
Bailey Rucker's six.
- Centre went cold in the second quarter, totaling only five points on a 2-for-14 shooting clip as Maryville rallied to carry a 28-22 lead into the locker rooms.
- Maryville quickly took a 33-22 advantage, its first double figure lead of the game, forcing a Colonel timeout.
- They came out of the break on an 8-0 run, getting a pair of buckets from
Presley Chirico and
Natalie Duggins to pull back within one possession.
- The Scots did enough to withstand the rally, however, keeping Centre at bay throughout the remainder of the game to secure the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Chirico led the team with 20 points and eight rebounds, going 6 of 13 from the floor and 8 of 10 from the free throw line. It was her second 20-point outing of the season.
- Centre went a season-worst 25% from long range, hitting just one 3-pointer after the first quarter.
- The Colonels out-rebounded the Scots 36-29. Duggins and
