Baughman torches Tigers, matches program record for threes in SAA opener

SEWANEE Tenn. – Carter Baughman had a career outing Saturday, totaling 40 points on the strength of 11 threes as Centre defeated Sewanee, 96-68, in the Southern Athletic Association opener inside Juhan Gymnasium.

The Colonels improve to 4-4 overall and start the SAA schedule 1-0, while the Tigers fall to 3-7 overall with an 0-1 start in league play.

Baughman's 11 3-pointers matched the program's single-game record, and his 40 points were the most by an individual since Jacob Bates' 43 against Greenville during the 2019-20 season.

Centre's win was the first at Sewanee since Jan. 18, 2014.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Baughman hit a triple on Centre's first possession to set the tone, and had four by the under-12 media break to help the Colonels claim a 21-10 lead.
- The Tigers made it a two-possession game near the four-minute mark, but Centre closed the half up by double figures at 44-34 following a late 3-pointer from Baughman. Dustin Gerald had a dozen points through 20 minutes to accompany Baughman's 19.
- Centre put the game out of reach in the second half, going on a stretch from 12:36 to 4:07 where it out-scored Sewanee 31-15. Baughman had 18 of those points, continuing his shooting frenzy.
- RJ Smith scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half to help the Colonels secure the win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
