Centre comes up short at No. 6 Millsaps in SAA semifinals

JACKSON, Miss. – Centre women's basketball fell by a 58-42 score Friday evening against sixth-ranked and top-seeded Millsaps in the Southern Athletic Association Tournament, played inside the Hangar Dome.

The Colonels (4-7) led after the first quarter, but the No. 6 Majors (12-1) rallied in the second and held onto the lead to secure a spot in the SAA Championship.

Ellen Hicks recorded a 13-point, 10-rebound double-double for Centre, while Madison Marcum led the team with 14 points.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Five early points from Madison Marcum had the Colonels up 11-8 at the first media break.
- With the Colonels leading 13-12 after one quarter, the host Majors swung the game in their favor and claimed a 20-16 lead to force a Centre timeout.
- Millsaps continued to stifle Centre's offensive effort, limiting the Colonels under 30% shooting across the first 20 minutes while carrying a 32-23 lead into the halftime break. The Majors' defense recorded six steals in the second quarter.
- They rolled that momentum into the third quarter, where they out-scored Centre 15-8 to widen the lead.
- The Colonels attempted a late surge in the fourth quarter, as buckets from Abigail Wehby and Presley Chirico pulled them within 49-38 midway through the period.
- Millsaps eventually pulled away, however, keeping Centre without a field goal for over five minutes to deny any comeback bid.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Marcum knocked down four 3-pointers en route to her season high in points.
- Hicks' double-double was her third this season and second in a row.
- Centre was held to 15 of 54 (28%) shooting overall from the field – its second lowest output of the year.
