DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre field hockey began the 2021 spring slate on a high note this weekend, winning the Southern Athletic Association 7 vs. 7 Tournament Saturday before defeating Concordia Wisconsin Sunday, 2-0, in a traditional game at South Campus Field.
SATURDAY
The Colonels went undefeated throughout the day, competing against Transylvania and Concordia Wisconsin in a shortened-format 7 vs. 7 Tournament.

Meredith Wickenheiser was named Tournament MVP, while
Emily Fry,
Sarah Biggs and
Maran Lee were placed on the All-Tournament Team.
SUNDAY
The Colonels dominated the Falcons in possession Sunday, ultimately overwhelming their guests by a 31-2 margin in total shots.
Megan Coomes opened the scoring 12 minutes into the game, striking from the right side to put the Colonels ahead by a goal.
The Falcons' goalie, Emily Binley, totaled seven saves through the first half to keep the game at 1-0.
Neither side have many chances in the third quarter, but Biggs made the most of hers, scoring from distance to make it 2-0.
Centre held CUW without a shot in the final period to hang on for the victory.
Sienna Joseph and
Elizabeth Solomon split time in goal for the Colonels.

The Colonels return to action April 10-11 for a similar weekend, hosting the SAA/NCAC 7 vs. 7 Tournament Saturday before holding a rematch with CUW Sunday at 12 p.m.
