ATLANTA – The Centre baseball team traveled south for their second straight series against the Stormy Petrels of Oglethorpe. After dropping the first game 7-2, the Colonels salvaged a split with a 5-3 win in game 2.
GAME 1 RECAP
- The Colonels were first on the board in the first game as
Karson Thompson led off the third inning with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and then a walk to
Patrick Hope set up runners at the corners.
Jamie Laframboise drove in the first run with an RBI groundout, and then Hope scored following a base hit by
Jake Holloway.
- Oglethorpe put four unearned runs on the board in the fourth following two Centre errors. Two RBI groundouts extended the Oglethorpe lead to 6-2 in the fifth
- Centre loaded the bases in the sixth, but could not bring a runner across the plate. Oglethorpe tacked on one final run in the bottom of the inning to provide the final margin.
GAME 2 RECAP
- Centre once again scored first as Thompson led off the game with a base hit. One error later, Thompson had scored and Hope was on third. Hope would eventually score following a base hit by
Chris Esselman and Centre led 2-0.

Jake Holloway took the mound for the second game and issued a pair of walks in the first inning, but got out of the jam by picking off a runner attempting to steal third.
- The starting pitchers controlled the next three innings, but the Colonels put three on the board in the fifth. Thompson again led off with a single and Centre loaded the bases as Hope was hit by a pitch and Holloway walked. Esselman singled to score the first run, followed by a fielder's choice by
Austin Sharkey and a sacrifice fly by
J. Ross.
- The Petrels finally got on the board, scoring a run and loading the bases to prompt a Centre pitching change as
Will Orren replaced Holloway. After a hit by pitch and an RBI groundout, the Petrels had the winning run at the plate, but Orren struck out the final batter to preserve a 5-3 victory.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORES
- Esselman and Thompson each went 2-4 in game 2, with Esselman driving in a pair of runs.
- The Petrels finished with more errors (4) than hits (3) in game 2.
- Holloway got his first win for the season, walking six but allowing just two hits in 6.1 innings of work.
