MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Centre women's tennis secured a second-place finish in the Southern Athletic Association regular season standings Saturday, defeating rival Rhodes by a wide 8-1 margin.
The Colonels move to 8-5 overall and 5-1 during the SAA schedule, while dropping the Lynx to 5-5 and 3-3 in-conference.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The Colonels swept through doubles by claiming three closely contested matches. The sophomore duo of
Lainey Hill and
Ella Rueff headlined Centre's efforts with an 8-6 victory against Dasha Safarian and Julia Darkey.
- At No. 2 doubles,
Caroline Stallings and
Hannah Doherty defeated Kate McGough and Lea Letourneau, 8-4.

Katharine Sherman and
Grace Headley won by the same score at No. 3 against Emily Holderness and Dallas Bennett. The pair improved to a team-leading 4-1 record this season.
- Centre went on to claim five of six singles matches in straight sets.
- Sherman won No. 1 singles against Letourneau, 6-1, 6-1, for her seventh win of the spring.
- Rueff dropped Holderness, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3, improving her singles record to 5-5.
- Doherty claimed a 6-4, 6-1 match against McGough at No. 4, marking her third straight singles win.
- At No. 5, Stallings handed Darkey a 6-1, 6-3 defeat, and
Caroline Lancaster won 6-2, 6-1 against Bennett at No. 6. The two both won their eighth singles matches of the spring to co-lead the team.
