Men’s tennis makes history in SAA semifinal win against Rhodes

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Centre men's tennis earned a spot in the Southern Athletic Association Tournament Championship for the first time ever Saturday, defeating Rhodes, 5-1, in the semifinal round.

The Colonels (8-7) capitalized on a doubles advantage against the Lynx (7-6), much like they did in last week's regular season meeting between the two sides. This time, however, they finished the job on the singles courts to make program history.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Matthew Bulow and Danny Nelson opened the scoring for Centre at No. 2 doubles, defeating Andrew Morton and Ted Hall, 8-3. It was the duo's third win in a row and they improved to 5-2 this spring.
- Arpit Rana and Bo Bush continued their strong spring season, defeating Daniel Trudell and Alex Lloyd at No. 1, 8-6, moving to 9-2 as a team.
- Faraz Ghamgosar and Ashton Whitt extended their doubles winning streak to a team-high six matches, gutting out an 8-7 (6) win against David Phillips and Gabe Williams at No. 3.
- Rhodes claimed a point early during singles action, but Whitt added one for Centre at No. 2 in a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Lloyd. His victory gave him a team-high eight singles triumphs this spring.
- Ghamgosar was involved in another battle in his No. 3 singles match against Williams. He eventually won in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, clinching Centre's spot in Sunday's finale.
