Centre rides doubles sweep to SAA semifinal victory

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Centre women's tennis defeated Berry by a 5-3 final score Saturday in the Southern Athletic Association Tournament semifinals.

The Colonels (9-6) advance to the SAA Championship for the third time since 2017, defeating the Vikings (11-3) for the second time this season.

HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre gained a huge advantage during the doubles portion of Saturday's match, winning all three contests.
- Lainey Hill and Ella Rueff, the reigning SAA Doubles Team of the Week, defeated Allison Ivey and Juliana Mascagni by an 8-5 margin in No. 1 doubles. It marked the pair's third consecutive victory.
- Katharine Sherman and Grace Headley finished next, defeating Emma Kruger and Sakura Manning, 8-4, in No. 3 doubles. They moved their win streak to five matches as a duo and are a team-leading 6-1 together this spring.
- Caroline Stallings and Hannah Doherty wrapped up with an 8-4 win against Adelle Yanez and Faith Van Rengen in No. 2 doubles, good for their third win in a row as a team.
- Berry took the first two completed singles matches to bring the overall score to 3-2.
- Rueff then dropped Sara Myers by a 6-4, 6-4 score in No. 2 singles to put Centre one point away from overall victory.
- The Vikings claimed No. 1 singles, but Stallings clinched the match in No. 5 in a hard-fought three-setter against Kruger. The senior won her team-high ninth singles contest of the spring, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, to send Centre on to the SAA Championship.
