MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Despite an early lead, the Centre women's lacrosse team suffered a 22-7 defeat at Rhodes in Sunday's Southern Athletic Association Tournament Championship.
The Colonels close the season 9-4 overall while the Lynx claim the title and a 14-0 record.
Mary Catherine Hardy,
Clare Heaney and
Bella Tacogue were each named to the All-Tournament Team following the contest.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre couldn't have asked for a better start, jumping out to a 4-0 lead behind goals from
Lily Gahm and Tacogue.
- The Colonels were able to keep the Lynx off the board for over 10 minutes, controlling possession while limiting Rhodes' scoring opportunities.
- Rhodes eventually got on the board and reeled off four unanswered to level the score.
- Hardy ended the run with an unassisted goal to briefly regain the lead for the Colonels.
- A goal from
McKenna Hulette later in the period made it 8-7 with under four minutes remaining, but the Lynx closed the half with four quick scores to carry plenty of momentum into the break.
- Rhodes blanked Centre in the second half, out-shooting the Colonels nearly two-to-one while holding a 14-3 advantage in ground balls.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Tacogue led the Colonels with three goals, marking her 11th hat trick of the season.
- Hardy and
Clare Heaney had five draw controls and multiple caused turnovers each.
