Third-quarter push carries Colonels past Warriors

CONWAY, Ark. – Centre men's lacrosse pulled away from Hendrix for a 13-5 victory Friday evening at Young-Wise Memorial Stadium.
 
The Colonels improve to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in the Southern Athletic Association with their sixth straight win, sending the Warriors to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in-conference.
 
Centre also improves to 8-2 all-time against Hendrix.
 
Will Hubbs matched a career high with six goals while Wills McCutcheon finished with nine saves and only four goals against.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
- Both sides struggled to generate scoring throughout the first quarter, resulting in a 1-1 tie through 15 minutes. After Hendrix took a brief lead, Hubbs hit the back of the net to level the score.
- Hubbs scored early in the second to give the Colonels their first lead, and completed his hat trick midway through the period. Mick Ginnity scored off an assist from Anthony DiMichele to make it 4-2 at the half.
- Centre out-scored Hendrix 5-0 in the third quarter to take full control of the contest. Hubbs tallied three during the period, while Chase Poplin and DiMichele added goals of their own as the Colonels took a 9-2 lead into the final frame.
- Fourth-quarter goals from Ginnity, Nic Malubay, Ridr Knowlton and Nate Dobbs capped the victory.   
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Dylan Croft claimed 11 of 12 faceoffs for Centre while Alex Mozingo finished 6 of 7. As a team, the Colonels won 17 of 21 faceoffs.
- Croft also led Centre with five ground balls, contributing to a massive 43-26 advantage overall. Hubbs and Mozingo followed with four GBs each.
- Ian Hubbs forced four turnovers to lead the Colonels' defense.
- Centre went 3-for-5 on man-up opportunities and limited Hendrix to a 1-for-3 effort.
 
UP NEXT
Centre closes its regular season Sunday at Rhodes at 2 p.m. ET, with the winner claiming the regular season SAA title and the right to host the upcoming conference tournament.
